Angola Fiber Optic Communication Cable Blowing

Home / Angola Fiber Optic Communication Cable Blowing

More than five hundred meters of 24-pair fiber optic cables from Angola Telecom were vandalized, last weekend, on section 105 between the city of Ondjiva and the municipality of Ombadja, province of Cunene, by unknown individuals. According to fibre optic cable operators, the landslide cut the West Africa Cable System (WACS) and SAT-3, two submarine cables that together serve around 20 countries over thousands of kilometres. There are also concerns that it could take a month before the cables are repaired. This is because both public and private organisations have made major investments in the past ten years. Cable installation by using high speed air flow combined with additional mechanical pushing force is called as "blowing or jetting".
